Our Team

Katie & Julian Tisato are the owner/operators of Paddle Patagonia, a small adventure tour company specializing in whitewater canoe and kayak trips, whitewater rescue courses and adventure vacations. Our home base is in the Patagonia region of Argentina just outside the small town of El Bolsón. Our trips are designed to combine an authentic Patagonian travel experience with the fun and adventurous things our guests love to do!

Julián

Julian TisatoGrowing up in Argentine Patagonia Julian always had a love for rivers and mountains, but it was after kayaking the Futaleufú River as a teenager that Julian’s true passion for whitewater emerged. Only 3 hours from home it was inevitable that Julian became a guide on the challenging Futaleufú River in Chile. Since then he has worked as a whitewater and multi-sport guide and instructor in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, Zambia, and Argentina.

Julian is known as a talented and patient instructor as well as a skilled raft guide, kayaker and canoeist. He is a Wilderness First Responder as well as a Whitewater Rescue Technician Instructor with Boreal River Rescue and a Kayaking and Canoe Instructor with Paddle Canada.

His pastimes naturally include paddling and seeking out new “first descents” in Patagonia but besides that he loves to work on building and construction projects.  Currently he and Katie are finishing the building of their first home in El Bolsón.

KatieKatie Hambly

Katie always had a passion for outdoor adventure and especially international travel. During her years at the University of Guelph she spent time living and traveling in Germany, Turkey, France, England and Russia. Eventually graduating with an Honours degree in European Studies and following it up with a post-graduate degree in Eco-Adventure Tourism Management. Since then Katie has managed marketing, sales and administration departments for tourism operators in Canada, Mexico, Chile and Argentina.

In 2009 Katie began working as a professional photographer and enjoys being able to capture the excitement outside of the office! That same year she also graduated from a 300hr Yoga Teacher training program and when time permits she is happy to offer yoga classes for aching paddling bodies.

Teo and Juli Canoe

In 2013 Katie & Julian welcomed the youngest member to the Paddle Patagonia team with the birth of their son Teo James Tisato, an instant child of adventure! Teo has been known to make appearances on shuttle runs and will jump in a kayak/bike/canoe any chance he gets! In 2015 along came our little girl Emma Louisa Tisato and now the team is keeping this mommy very busy!

We love our remote little part of the world and look forward sharing it with you soon!

Fidel Moreno

Fidel MorenoFidel comes from the small town of Trevelin, Argentina and he has been instructing whitewater kayaking and guiding paddling trips in Chile, Argentina and Canada for many years. He started out as a competitive swimmer but now spends (almost) every moment of his free time kayaking! When not guiding for Paddle Patagonia Fidel runs his own kayaking school out of Trevelin.  We are proud to say Fidel placed 2nd in the Pan-American Freestyle Kayaking championships in 2012. Fidel is also known to be an excellent cook and a skilled fly-fisherman and he brings a wonderful energy to all of Paddle Patagonia’s trips!

Ezequiel ElizaldeEzequiel Elizalde

“Eze” was born and raised in the outskirts of El Bolsón where his family ran a campground on the banks of the Azul River.  As an adult he has been spending his summers guiding rafts on the river during the summer and instructing snowboarding in the winter.  He also works as an assistant instructor for Boreal River Rescue courses.

Mirko MorenoMirko Moreno

I was born in Patagonia in the Welsh settlement town of Trevelin, surrounded by Andes mountains and rivers. Ever since I was a child, my parents gave me a sense of adventure by taking me on different expeditions from climbing mountains to multi-day kayaking trips. As I grew up, I started searching for my own adventures by riding my bike through the woods and exploring the trails around our village. By the time I was a teenager, adventure was a big part of my life. We are also a family of swimmers and as such I spent most of my teenage years training in the swimming pool and I learned a lot by competing in the sport. Eventually, some friends introduced me to the world of whitewater paddling and that led me into a whole new way of living. From that point in my life, I started traveling with my whitewater kayak, searching for new rivers and beautiful places and getting to know tons of awesome people. Being able to work doing the things I love is the best part of it all. Now, I work as a full-time outdoor adventure guide, trip leading and doing logistics for multi-day adventures including trekking, whitewater kayaking, mountaineering, sea-kayaking and mountain biking. Life is good!
