Trip description

Price: U$D 0.00.

Whitewater kayaking in Chile means Big Water Fun!  The Futaleufú river in patagonia is a world-class paddling destination and our guides will show you the best this river has to offer.

This kayaking tour is ideal for a strong intermediate class IV whitewater kayaker.

Please note, this is a "basics" trip and does not include meals, rentals or transport to/from Futaleufú.  Accomodation in dormitory style rooms is included. Please inquire if you would like a customized or all-inclusive style trip instead!

Day 1: Meet up in Futaleufú

Make your way to Futa!  Departing from Esquel, Argentina you will travel 60km to reach the border crossing into Chile at the “Paso Río Futaleufú.”  From here you will cross into Chile and make your way to your accommodation for the night in the town of Futaleufú.

Tonight you can arrange to meet up with your guide for a casual dinner or a drink and talk about the plan for the week.  * We can advise you on travel options for getting to Futa. Otherwise a taxi can be arranged to drive you from Esquel, Argentina at an additional cost.

Day 2: Introduction to big water: The Macal Section and Bridge to Cara del Indio

This morning will be a warm up on the Macal section (III+) where your guide can assess your whitewater paddling skills and plan the days ahead.

The Macal section is the bottom section of the Futaleufú and is a great introduction to the big water of the Futa.  Afterwards you may continue on to the top part of Bridge to Bridge, paddling down to Cara del Indio.

Day 3: The Wild Mile

Today you will kayak "The Wild Mile" which contains the rapids of Tres Islas (IV), Roller Coaster (III), Honorable Mention (IV),  and Wild Mile (IV minus).

Day 4: Terminator Section

The famous Terminator section (7kms) of the the Futaleufú begins at the confluence of the Rio Azul and continues until the start of the Bridge to Bridge section. Along with your guide you will scout then run, sneak or portage a series of complex rapids including the class V Terminator rapid which is the longest on the river. This section also includes several play options depending on water levels.

Day 5: Bridge to Bridge

Today is your final day on the River and you will paddle the most well-known section starting at the “Entrada” bridge and finishing at the cement bridge (Puente Futaleufú).  This section is 8kms long and is one of the most continuous stretches of big volume whitewater in the world including 14 rapids rated from III to V-. After this grande finale, your guide and fellow paddlers might decide to celebrate with a pisco sour and an "asado" to celebrate an amazing week of paddling.

*Please note that this is a sample itinerary and the order and sections of the river may change due to water levels, paddler skill levels and interest. This will be determined by your guide.
